Talent Acquisition and Retention Specialist

Job Summary

Reporting to the Culture and Learning Director, the Talent Acquisition and Retention Specialist oversees and coordinates all hiring processes for the NDN Ecosystem from job creation through finding fresh and innovative ways to retain NDN’s talented staff. This will include corresponding with applicants, assisting with interviews, creating offer letters, helping with onboarding processes, and checking in with employees. This position will assist the People, Culture, and Belonging team in other Human Resources functions such as revising policies, procedures, and other HR documents; attending meetings across the NDN Ecosystem; completing compliance audits, and assisting with other Culture and Learning functions.

The Position

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees, coordinates, and refines all hiring processes for the NDN Ecosystem.
    • Assists with the creation, editing, and promotion of all job descriptions.
    • Manages the NDN Jobs email on a daily basis to update hiring spreadsheets and communicate with applicants.
    • Organizes and maintains team hiring spreadsheets with all pertinent information, and coordinates with hiring team members to ensure all have Hiring Tracker access and that applications are being read/commented on in a timely manner. 
    • Assists Managing Directors and team Associates, when necessary, with all scheduling/support for job interviews, including attending interviews, assisting with note taking, attending/facilitating follow-up/panel interviews, debrief meetings, and reference checks. 
    • Handles all correspondence with applicants including pass (declination) letters, interview requests, and reference checks. Reaches out to the Managing DIrector/Director regarding salary and other pertinent information to complete offer letters.
    • Manages new hire and onboarding documents for compliance purposes: W-4, I9, direct deposit, Wellmark Applications, Headspace.
  • Oversees, coordinates, and refines all retention practices and processes for the NDN Ecosystem.
    • Conducts “Stay Interviews” with seasoned, individual NDN staff/teams.
    • Researches and implements different talent development and retention initiatives.
    • Completes salary surveys and assessments 
    • Regularly audits employee folders and files for HR and compliance purposes
    • Works with PCB Associate and Culture & Learning Coordinator to create and implement monthly fun activities to create a team atmosphere through staff bonding (i.e. Halloween costume contest, Gratitude November, etc.) 
  • Supports PCB team with revising and updating policies and procedures. 
  • Attends weekly PCB Office Hours and check-ins with PCB directors
  • Assists with HR compliance measures when needed
  • Assists with Culture and Learning work as needed
  • Travels to Headquarters (Rapid City, SD) on a quarterly basis and schedules in-person interviews during this time to support the local teams. 
  • Other Duties as needed

Who You Are

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred but candidates with strong levels of experience directly related to the position will definitely be considered.
  • 2-4 years experience in human resources with a strong focus in talent acquisition and retention is highly preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Impeccable communication skills, both written and verbal, with considerable experience facilitating interviews one-on-one or in a group or panel setting.
  • Strong technological abilities and experience working with applications such as Google Workspace, MS Office, Zoom, high comfortability with various types of spreadsheets, and other modes of communication such as Signal and Slack.
  • Preferred knowledge of Indigenous cultures and decolonization.
  • Excellent skills in planning and organizing, with the ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines at once.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with remote employees.
  • Strong motivation and ability to take initiative

This position is salaried, commensurate with experience at a GS Level 11 ranging from $65,000 to $73,000. A generous benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan, a wellness program, personal leave, professional development, and more.
